Volunteer Requirements

The Figure Skating Club of Minneapolis is a volunteer organization. Without support of skaters and parents like you, we would not be able to exist. In the '25-'26 season, we will be re-launching a volunteer hour requirement for club members. Please see below for details.

We appreciate all the support you provide and can only grow as a result of your involvement. Thank you!!

FAQs

Who is required to volunteer?

  • Home Club Member - 3 Shifts

  • Family Member - 3 Shifts (+1 Shift for each additional family member)

  • Introductory Club Member - 2 Shifts

  • Synchro Only Club Member - 1 Shift​

 

Who is not required to volunteer?

  • Associate Club Member

  • Collegiate Club Member

  • Coach Member

  • Learn To Skate Member

How can I get credit for volunteer shifts?

  • A quarterly sign up form will be available.
    Sign up directly on this form, it is "first come, first served" ~ keep your eyes out for the publishing of this form, coming soon!

  • Board Member

    • If you join the board, your volunteer commitment is fulfilled for the year!​

  • Skate-O-Ween or National Skating Month Open Houses

    • Held in October and January, respectively​

    • You can lead a workstream for both events to have your requirement completely fulfilled, or you can pick up a single volunteer shift or two at these events.

  • Robin Lee

    • Held the first weekend in August each year​

    • Multiple opportunities to volunteer for various shifts

    • Lead a workstream for this event and your entire commitment is fulfilled

  • General Admin Items

    • We have numerous opportunities for ongoing support for items and initiatives throughout the year. These items can be completed on your time and schedule with support from the board.​

 

How young can a skater be and volunteer on their own? 

  • Skaters 16+ are able to volunteer

  • Skaters 16-17 years old require parental consent (this can be provided on the sign up document)

I'm a Learn To Skate Skater or Parent and I'd like to volunteer, can I?

  • Yes! While you are not required to volunteer as a part of your Learn To Skate involvement, you are always welcome to volunteer! Feel free to sign up for a shift once the schedule is live or reach out to info@fscmpls.org to see about getting involved!

What if I don't want to volunteer?

  • At the time of membership registration or renewal, you will be able to preemptively opt-out of the volunteer requirement for a $100 fee​

How will I know if I've met my requirement?

  • The club will send out notices throughout the year to keep you aware of your volunteer hours. These will be timed to key volunteer opportunities as well!

  • If you have not met your requirement by the end of March, you will receive an invoice for a $100 fee. You will have an opportunity to meet your requirement before the end of the membership year and have the fee waived or choose to pay the fee at this time.

What does it mean to "lead a workstream"?

  • In general, it means you will take ownership of a piece of the work needed to create our events and initiatives.
