The success of the Figure Skating Club of Minneapolis relies heavily on volunteers. It is a non profit organization, and with the exception of a few administrative hours, the club operates on the time and energy of member volunteers, coaches, and our volunteer board.
What are the volunteer guidelines?
The club charges an annual volunteer fee to encourage members’ participation in the club’s operations. In order to have the volunteer fee refunded each year, individual home club members must put in 20 hours of volunteer time. Family memberships require 30 hours. Since our two largest events are the Robin Lee and the annual ice show, at least one shift at each are required .
What can I do?
There are countless opportunities. Below is a list of some, but not all, that are available.
-
Serve on the board of directors.
-
Volunteer for an event committee, like the ice show or Robin Lee.
-
Help with newsletter content
-
Help with web site content.
-
Take pictures at club events.
-
Assist the academy director with recruitment and club mailings.
-
Chaperone for synchronized skating trips.
-
Manage or help with a fundraiser.
-
Data entry and data base management.
-
Daily operation functions like serving as Ice Monitor.
Who do I talk to about getting involved?
Any Board Member or the Academy Director (listed on the Contact Us page) can let you know where help is needed. Or check out the "current volunteer opportunities" listed below.

Current volunteer opportunities:
Open House Event:
Our club is hosting the USFS Skate with Us event in January. If you are interested in helping, contact Trina.
Fundraising Coordinator:
We are looking for a motivated, self starter to organize our fundraising efforts. No need to reinvent the wheel here! Just get all the information on current club fundraisers in one place and create a calendar of fundraising opportunities. You will have help recruiting coordinators for each event. Contact Trina for more information.
Special Projects:
Do you have Dreamweaver of InDesign experience? A couple of short term projects could fulfill your volunteer requirements for the year! Contact Cathy for more information.
Daily operations/ice monitor:
For each session, please compare the number of skaters checked in the book compared to how many are on the ice. Skaters are often in a hurry and forget to check in. Assist random skaters in signing in and paying for the session. If it’s a 45 minute session, you will be credited 45 minutes of volunteer time. Please contact Cathy for more information.
