Individual Lessons
The Figure Skating Club of Minneapolis offers ice time year round for individual lessons; Monday through Friday evenings and Saturday mornings during the school year and weekday and evening sessions during the summer. Lessons are offered for Freestyle, Moves in the Field and Ice Dance.
To start individual lessons, a skater must become a member of the club, purchase ice time and hire a coach.
Club Membership Please see our Membership page for details on becoming a club member. Memberships are renewed annually and must be current to buy a contract.
Contracts We offer four contracts a year: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. A typical contract is about 12 weeks long and offers 18 sessions a week in contract ice, and on and off ice specialty classes. The contract is posted on the website approximately four weeks before the start of a new contract period. Registration is online and payment can be made with a credit card or check. Visit the Contract Page for additional information.
Practice Ice Sessions Freestyle sessions are 45 to 60 minutes and Moves in the Field sessions are 30 minutes. Ice Dance and Moves in the Field can be skated during a Freestyle session. Coaches typically offer a 20-minute lesson during the session with the remaining time for individual practice. Skaters can practice on contract ice without a lesson if they so desire.
Coaches Our experienced professional coaches are independent contractors. They all offer USFS Freestyle and Moves in the Field instruction. Some offer ISI instruction. Please see our Coaches page for their biographies and a guide on how to choose a coach.
Try us for free! Our coaches have introductory lesson coupons for non US Figure Skating full members so a skater can try a sample lesson before hiring a coach. Please contact a coach directly to arrange for an introductory lesson. Coaches' emails are on the Coaches page. There is no charge for the ice time or instructor during an introductory lesson. Non club members are limited to three club sessions (plus any applicable ice and/or coach fees) before membership in the club is required.
